This video was recorded by my husband Opik. He and his family are residents of North Lombok, Indonesia. They were hit hard by the earthquake last Sunday. Thank God they are all still alive. But the destruction is devastating.
In the trembling Opiks voice, I recognize the grief and despair over his situation, which is just one example of the situation of all people affected by the earthquake. These people have fallen deeply into my heart. In Opiks village Rangsot I was the only tourists always received warmly and everyone has always made every effort to make me feel accepted and comfortable.
Opik and I met 6 years ago on Gili Trawangan. A small tourist island off the northwest coast of Lombok. Since then, I've been to Lombok and Gili T regularly. I'm experiencing the disaster from Germany. For the last 6 years I've seen how Opiks family has made it out of poverty with a lot of diligence and that only through the tourism of the Gili Islands. Their pride, their homes, into which they have invested their entire income, which is still a pittance for us (about 100 € a month), are after the earth quake only rubble heaps. I have been able to observe how the people in this region have made it to a small piece of wealth and now they are left with nothing.
If I look into the future, then I see the prospects of the inhabitants of Lombok utara. Tourists will not come anymore. How should they deserve the money to rebuild their homes? Or worse, how are they supposed to make money to buy food? They asked for help. That's why I set up a fundraising campaign. Everyone does what they can and if it's just a small amount, helping people on Lombok is a great help. I will personally ensure that the money is used wisely.

Dieses Video hat mein Mann Opik aufgezeichnet. Er und seine Famile sind Bewohner von Nord-Lombok, Indonesien. Sie wurden vergangenen Sonntag stark vom Erdbeben getroffen. Gott sei Dank sind sie alle noch am Leben. Doch die Zerstörung ist verherend.
Im Zittern Opiks Stimme, erkenne ich die Trauer und Verzweiflung über seine Situation, welche nur ein Beispiel für die Lage aller Menschen ist die vom Erdbeben betroffen sind. Diese Menschen habe tief in mein Herz geschlossen. In Opiks Dorf Rangsot wurde ich als einzige Touristen immer herzlich empfangen und alle haben sich immer die aller größte Mühe gegeben, dass ich mich angenommen und wohl fühle.
Opik und ich haben uns vor 6 Jahren auf Gili Trawangan kennen gelernt. Eine kleine touristische Insel vor der Nordwestküste von Lombok. Seitdem war ich regelmäßig auf Lombok und Gili T. Die Katastrophe erlebe ich jetzt von Deutschlad aus. In den letzten 6 Jahren konnte ich beobachten wie es Opiks Famile mit viel Fleiß aus der Armut geschafft hat und das ausschließlich durch den Tourismus der Gili Inseln.
Ihr ganzer Stolz, ihre Häuser, in die sie ihr gesamtes Einkommen, welches für uns immer noch ein Hungerlohn ist (ca. 100€ im Monat), investiert haben, sind nach dem Erdbebeben nur noch Trümmerhaufen. Ich konnte beobachten wie es die Menschen in dieser Region zu einem kleinen Stück Wohlstand geschafft haben und jetzt stehen sie vor dem Nichts. Schaue ich in die Zukunft, dann sehe ich die Perspektiven der Bewohner von Lombok utara. Touristen werden nicht mehr kommen. Wie sollen sie das Geld verdiehnen um ihre Häuser wieder aufzubauen? Oder noch schlimmer, wie sollen sie Geld verdiehnen um etwas zu Essen zu kaufen?
Sie haben mich um Hilfe gebeten. Deshalb habe ich eine Spendenkampagne eingerichtet. Jeder tut was er kann und wenn es nur ein kleiner Betrag ist, den Menschen auf Lombok ist damit sehr geholfen. Ich werde persönlich dafür sorgen, dass das Geld sinnvoll eingesetzt wird.
